After all my many decades of skiing and outdoor hiking in Vermont, I finally made it to the shores of Burlington in 2021. I headed down to the shoreline by where the ferry would have taken off from but we were still in the throes of the Covid Pandemic and all ferry services to NY State were canceled.
I found a lovely spot on the boardwalk with a very comfortable bench and set up my tripod, waiting for the setting sun to do its thing.
I love the view across Lake Champlain where the High Peaks in the Adirondacks fade into shades of blue and purple not just at sunset but all day long.
In researching the waterfront park, I learned that this spot was the 3rd largest port for lumber in the 1800’s. In the early 1900’s, rail tracks and infrastructure began to occupy the waterfront. As the railway industry went into decline, the area became a hub for bulk petroleum storage.
In more recent years, barge traffic on Lake Champlain has ceased due to “siltation” in the south lake and trucking became the prominent way to move petroleum products around.
The City took action in the late 80’s to reclaim the decaying waterfront and clean it up. These lands became part of a Land Public Trust and guidelines were established to make these areas accessible to all for enjoyment.
Perhaps it is for the best that I did not visit this area sooner as what once was abandoned industrial land has been transformed into a beautiful park and marina.
This gorgeous landscape format sunset is available in 3 different colorways and can be printed in large sizes. It would look best printed on acrylic due to vivid colors but can be printed on any of our papers (Fujiflex recommended) and high gloss white metal.

- Standard acrylic glazing, which is lighter than glass and can be shipped without breakage.

- Or use a dampened, not soaked, 100% cotton cloth - like a T-shirt. Dampen with a mixture of dish washing soap and water.
- Never use an ammonia-based glass cleaner such as Windex. The ammonia will cloud the acrylic.
