I spent close to a month in England in 2021, visiting with my eldest daughter for the Christmas holidays. She spent two years working for an American corporation in London and as I write this, she is finally returning home to New York today. During this period, my mobility was severely hampered by a work related accident and was awaiting knee surgery at the time. It was a good time for us to rent a car and visit the Cotswolds, which most people have heard of thanks to wonderful TV programs. I would describe the area as a Hamptons like destination for the London Elite crowd, without the beach.
My daughter and I stayed at the Cotswold Grange, a lovely 5 star boutique hotel in one of the major towns in the Cotswolds called Cheltenham. It was centrally located and was a good place to be at for late night dining options. They served a wonderful English breakfast with fresh fruit and farm eggs which was included in the cost of the room. Some of the little towns you travel through have limited dining, especially in the evening. Many places are only open Thursday through Sunday in the winter.
We passed through Bibury twice. The first time, the heavy fog was just lifting and it was not very suitable for photo opportunities. The next time we drove through, it was early in the morning as the sun was rising and we were able to walk around the small village running into less than a handful of people. I parked my car behind a fabulous DeLoren just on the side of the road before you reach the little cottages by the brook. This is one of the most photographed spots in England. Most photos you have seen of Bibury are of beautiful flowers and green fields. In December, the spot was in my opinion equally beautiful with golden leaves still on some of the trees, crystal blue skies and the brown grasses in the field juxtaposed against the green moss growing on the fieldstone walls. I think this beautiful color landscape format photograph really captures the essence of this little hamlet. This photography print is suitable to be printed in large sizes and would work equally on any of our finishes.
One of the other highlights in the Cotswolds is the wonderful Daylesford Organic mega store in Avon-On-Marsh, a huge food and garden enterprise where they are “dedicated to growing, producing and cooking seasonal and organic foods”. For anyone coming from the NYC area, think Stew Leonard's crosses Eataly and Pottery barn. We had our best Cotswold meal there at one of its many restaurants. We were warned by my cousin Johnny who lives nearby (and is a neighbor of Pru Leith of the Great British Baking Show) about the prices but coming from NY, we found them to be no more shocking than Manhattan prices for the quality. They also have a London store.
If you are looking for a beautiful winter art print for a bedroom, living room, or den, this is a great wall decor option.
