The Breakwater Hotel, designed by Yugoslavian architect Anton Skislewick and built in 1939, is one of Miami’s most iconic Art Deco buildings still in existence. It is located on the main seafront Boulevard in South Beach known as Ocean Drive.
The building is perfectly symmetrical from the exterior as you can see in this photograph. This was very “de rigueur” with the designers of the period. It features very strong and clean horizontal lines accentuated by planes of blue and yellow hues against a clean cream colored stucco background.
In 2011, the hotel received a $20 million renovation. The current hotel is a combination of 2 former Art Deco hotels rendered obsolete and falling apart. The interior was gutted and spaces reconfigured. The interiors were redesigned by the Stephen Jacobs Group. Their rooms and spaces reflect modern interiors with hints of Art Deco. There are over 100 very chic rooms spread into two towers. At the ground level, you can sit at one of their terrace tables, while sipping a mojito and watching the throng of street crowds go by.

- Or use a dampened, not soaked, 100% cotton cloth - like a T-shirt. Dampen with a mixture of dish washing soap and water.
- Never use an ammonia-based glass cleaner such as Windex. The ammonia will cloud the acrylic.
